The Louisville Chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters marked the completion of its "400 Campaign" Sunday.Faced with a backlog of 400 children in need of mentors, Big Brothers Big Sisters launched the campaign in September. Volunteer Donnie Adkins began mentoring in November and was later told he was the 400th person to sign up during the campaign. But Adkins says just because this campaign is over doesn't mean volunteers aren't still in demand."When I talked to Big Brothers Big Sisters one thing they said they were lacking in was men," he says. "Specifically African-American men."Adkins says he didn't sign up with the organization because of the campaign, but had been interested in mentoring for about a year prior.
