City Begins Marketing Campaign for Road Safety
Louisville Metro Government is spending $45,000 in federal grant money to encourage people to learn more about pedestrian, cyclist and motorist safety. The “Street Sense” campaign will use advertising on buses, backpacks and leaflets to urge people to visit the city’s website to learn more about safety on the roads.But Police Chief Robert White says he thinks many people understand how the relationships between those vehicles and people work.“I am confident that many in our community actually knows what the rules of the roads are as it relates to whether you’re driving in a car, you’re riding on a bike, or you’re walking," says White. "I am not as confident that they are going by those rules. Knowing the rules, and applying the rules are two different things.”Last year, 23 pedestrians and three cyclists died in collisions with vehicles.
