Arrests Made After Back-to-School Show, Concert

At least a dozen arrests were made this morning after a back-to-school event at the Kentucky International Convention Center in downtown Louisville. The Russ Parr Morning Show – a nationally syndicated radio program – was broadcasting live from there and handing out free school supplies.As the event ended, police say several skirmishes erupted and spilled out into the streets, prompting them to temporarily shut down several streets.Metro Council President David Tandy was a sponsor of the event, and says because of similar incidents that past two years, they were prepared.“It was something we were anticipating, and working with the police on," says Tandy, "to try to minimize any potential problems that may present themselves.”Tandy says he’ll meet with police to talk about if the event should return to Louisville, and if it does, what precautions should be taken to prevent violence.“After we’ve collected all the information and had the opportunity to evaluate the situation, then make the determination as to how do we move forward with this event if we do it again next year or not, all options are on the table," says Tandy.It’s estimated between two and four-thousand people attended the event.Last year, several ambulances were dispatched to the event when people suffered heat-related illnesses. In 2007, police and ambulances were required when similar violence erupted.
