A new Center for Regional Environmental Studies is open at Bellermine University in Louisville.Founding dean and director Dr. Robert Kingsolver says degree proposals are already being turned in to him for courses of study in the environmental field. He says he wants the center to focus on environmental issues critical to Kentucky, like the prevalence of coal.“Our low electric rates are one of the benefits of living in Kentucky," says Kingsolver. "But there are also some tremendous environmental impacts associated with the use of coal. So we have some environmental problems to address that would not be common to other parts of the country.”Kingsolver says a minor in environmental studies could be available to Bellarmine students as soon as the upcoming school year. He says undergraduate degrees could follow as soon as the 2010-11 school year.
