Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson has been meeting with city employee unions to find ways to cut costs for the next Metro Government budget.Abramson says the new budget will carry over the more than $22 million in cuts made during the current fiscal year.In addition, a state Labor Cabinet ruling in a dispute over the city’s take home car program could cost Metro Government another $1.4 million.Abramson says flat or negative revenue growth is almost guaranteed. He's in talks with the firefighter's union now to find ways to save money."We have one of the unions at the bargaining table now," he says. "The contract is open for one of them and I have asked the unions to participate and join with us in helping to resolve this difficulty and have not received a great deal of support."Abramson says everything is on the table for the next budget, including layoffs, service cuts and furloughs. He'll unveil the new budget proposal on May 28th.
