Decision Pending On Preakness Run For Mine That Bird

Longshot Kentucky Derby Winner Mine That Bird may headed for the Preakness Stakes,  the second jewel in thoroughbred racing’s Triple Crown.    His handlers said Sunday that a decision would be made in a day or two.Jockey Calvin Borel stuck to the rail to ride Mine That Bird to victory. It's the same strategy he used to win the Derby with Street Sense in 2007.Borel declined to speculate on how Mine That Bird might fare in the Preakness, but he says the colt is well-suited to his style of racing."He can stop and take off a lot faster than a big, long lanky horse," he says. "A big, long lanky horse, you get him stopped it takes longer to get going. A little bitty horse like that you can stop and really kind of weave him through traffic a lot easier than a big horse."Borel also guided Rachel Alexandra to an easy victory in this Friday’s Kentucky Oaks. He could be faced with the possibility of having both the Derby and Oaks winners compete in the Preakness Stakes on May 16.Borel says if forced to decide which mount to choose, he would go with the Rachel Alexandra."Oh, I'd ride her," he says. "I think she's the best horse in the country right now."The Preakness Stakes will be run on May 16th.
