Listen to the show

Career Transitions

Skyrocketing unemployment has Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear and top education officials searching for ways to help the jobless pursue new skills and new careers. Kentucky Public Radio’s Tony McVeigh says tuition breaks is one idea getting a positive response.

Hotter Times

A new landscaping collective wants to revolutionize the way Louisvillians care for their land. They’re also not above designing a beautiful garden right in your back yard. Hotter Times founder talks with WFPL’s Kristin Espeland for this week’s Studio 619.

Art Collecting

Passion takes many forms and colleting art is one of them. Throughout history, most collectors have been considerably wealthy. But today, a collector doesn’t have to be Rockefeller. WFPL’s Elizabeth Kramer reports.

Wikipedia Revolution

In eight years of operation, the free, open-source, online encyclopedia Wikipedia has become one of the most-visited sites on the internet. Wikipedia relies on the web's hive mind for all of its content. Anyone can edit Wikipedia, and the combined knowledge is nearly all-encompassing. For example, there's just as much information on Marge Simpson as there is Laura Bush. And all of that information is surprisingly accurate, says Andrew Lih. He's the author of the book "The Wikipedia Revolution," and he recently talked with WFPL's Gabe Bullard.

Louisville Orchestra's New Season

The Louisville Orchestra recently announced their season for 2009-2010. It includes a commissioned composition and soloists, including Joshua Bell. WFPL’s Elizabeth Kramer sat down with Jorge Mester, the orchestra’s music director.

Orangutans

The orangutan population on the planet is dwindling.  The Louisville Zoo will host an Orangutan Awareness Weekend next weekend to show off their four orangutans and educate the public about the challenges facing the orangutan population in the wild.

Stephanie Sanders spoke with the Supervisor of Animal Training, Jane Ann Franklin.
