Hundreds Rally for "Stream Saver" Bill

Activists with Kentuckians for the Commonwealth are once again promoting legislation that would prohibit mining companies from dumping waste from mountaintop removal mining in nearby streams.  The so-called “Stream Saver” bill has been introduced several times, to no avail.  Coal industry representatives say the bill isn’t necessary, and that efforts are made to restore damaged streams.  KFTC member Randy Wilson says it’s important to try again anyway.“The government is like an anvil, they won’t move.  And all we can do is pound on it so hard that the world will hear," says Wilson.Wilson spoke from the capitol in Frankfort, where KFTC members and other activists rallied during the annual “I Love Mountains” day.   Kentuckian and actress Ashley Judd was among the speakers at the event, attended by an estimated thousand people.
