FEMA Continues Assessment of Kentucky Disaster

Kentucky is awaiting further investigation from FEMA to see if the federal government will agree to pay 100% of recovery costs in the days that followed last month’s ice storm.Last week, 93 counties were declared major disaster areas – meaning they’re eligible for up to 75% reimbursement of storm costs.FEMA spokesperson Rita Egan says teams are on the ground throughout Kentucky completing preliminary damage assessments."What we’re looking at right now is if other counties are available," says Egan, "we’re waiting to hear whether or not the request by Governor Beshear for the 100% for the first seven days is approved or not. This information will go into helping make that decision also. And that’s the most important thing right now."Egan says teams are also in counties not included in the original disaster declaration, to see if they should be added to the list.
