No Appeal For Engine 7 Case

The neighborhood group that fought to keep the Engine 7 firehouse open has decided not to appeal their recent court loss.Engine 7 closed in mid January due to budget cuts. Many residents near the Old Louisville firehouse filed suit, saying their safety was in jeopardy. Metro fire officials said that wasn’t the case, as the area is served by up to six nearby stations.Late last month, a judge ruled against the residents and Engine 7 has remained closed. Old Louisville Neighborhood Council Chair Joan Stewart says instead of fighting the ruling, residents will focus on improving their safety in other ways.“What we will do is have neighborhood sessions on how to make sure that you are aware of what you need to do in order to protect yourself in case of fire," she says. The Engine 7 firehouse is 138 years old, and there are no plans to demolish the facility.
