208,000 Without Power Statewide

According to new figures from the Public Service Commission, last week’s ice storm knocked out electricity to one-third of all power customers in Kentucky. Now, 208,000 households are without power across the state.At the peak of the outages, nearly 770,000 utility customers lost power, making this the largest blackout in Kentucky history. PSC spokesperson Andrew Melnykovych says a full recovery in the hardest-hit areas could take weeks.“There’s a lot of damage to the transmission backbone out in Western Kentucky and you can get lines to individual homes and distribution system repairs done, but if you can’t get the power into the area, you’re not going to have power," he says.In Louisville, officials expect power to be fully restored in the next few days.
