In remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King, the University of Louisville is sponsoring a day of public service Monday. The event coincides with President- Elect Barack Obama’s call for service to honor Dr. King, but Americorps volunteer Kara Morrell says the local event was organized before the election.“It was pretty cool and it actually got more response from people than we expected since he put the call out," she says. "So we actually upped our volunteer base from 125 to 200 in order to incorporate as many volunteers as we could.”University students and community members will participate in service projects around the city organized in part by Morrell. The day of service is paid for with a federal grant and a donation from U of L’s student government.
