Louisville Students Travel to DC for Inauguration

About forty students from Louisville’s Bellarmine University will be in Washington, D.C. for tomorrow’s swearing-in of President-elect Barack Obama. Among them is Michelle Foisy, a policial science major.The senior from Indianapolis says Obama inspires people like her, who come from mixed ethnic backgrounds."It really puts things in reality that you don’t have an excuse not to be great," says Foisy. "That no matter who you are or what background you come from, there’s no excuse to basically achieve the highest office in the nation."She looks forward to meeting people there who are also excited about the upcoming presidency of Barack Obama."Not just people my age, but, you know, for young and old," says Foisy. "So just to see, you know, people who have been wanting this for their whole lives, I think it’s going to be amazing, just to share in that presence with everyone, you know, you feel the same way, and that vibe, you know, you get from it."Foisy and the other Bellarmine students were selected for the trip through an essay contest, in which they outlined the significance of Obama’s inauguration, both personally and historically.Inauguration Coverage from NPR begins on WFPL Tuesday morning at ten.
