This week’s meeting of the Kentucky Board of Education will focus on saving schools from budget cuts. The commonwealth is facing a $456 million shortfall and Governor Steve Beshear has asked all departments to reduce spending by 4%. Department of Education spokesperson Lisa Gross says many schools won’t be able to afford that deep of a cut.“That could affect staffing, it could affect the programs that districts offer, it could affect plans they’re making for the future," she says. "So it’s not something we’re looking forward to and we’re really hoping that there’s some miracle that occurs that will keep this cut from happening.”Gross says part of the board’s meeting will be spent preparing its legislative agenda, and its case against any further cuts.
