Army to Dispose of Nerve Gas at Bluegrass Depot

It’s been a little more than a year since one of the most serious leaks to date from a chemical weapons storage container at the Bluegrass Army Depot.  This Wednesday (today), the U.S. Army will begin destroying the nerve agent in that container and two others like it using a smaller scale disposal system.  Anti-weapons activist and head of the Chemical Weapons Working Group Craig Williams says it’s the right thing to do now.“We’re looking forward to finally getting rid of some of the stockpile that’s here in Kentucky. It’ll be a good day when that’s done and then we’re looking forward to the bigger project down the road," Williams says.The bigger project down the road involves destroying the remainder of the stockpile of sarin and mustard gases by the year 2017.  Williams says that will require bigger infrastructure to handle the volume of weapons.
