Louisvillians have a chance this weekend to say goodbye to the Executive Inn hotel. It’s owners, the Schneider family, have decided to close the facility and tear it down by the end of the year.Since 1963 the hotel has stood on state-owned land next to the Kentucky Exposition Center. Schneider family spokesperson Keith LaBelle says it would be too difficult to continue renovating the hotel as demand for rooms increases.“The state has certainly shared with us the need for a more modern if not branded facility there," he says. "And really, when all the numbers were crunched at days end it was just determined that the closure of that particular hotel at this time for a more modern facility was just the best route to go.”The State Fair Board will take bids for a new hotel on the same property. The Schneiders plan to spend $26 million to turn the nearby Executive West hotel into a Crowne Plaza.A goodbye party for the Executive Inn is scheduled for Sunday.
