Louisville Leads Nation in Volunteer Retention

Louisville has a higher volunteerism rate than the national average, and does a better job of retaining volunteers –according to a report released today by the Corporation for National and Community Service. Louisville ranks 15th among the country’s 50 largest cities in the number of hours spent volunteering.Spokesperson Siobhan Dugan says the city’s retention rate was nearly 84-percent."One of the real challenges across the country with volunteering is retaining volunteers," says Dugan. "Louisville does not have that problem. Louisville ranked first in volunteer retention."Dugan says that fact helps agencies because they typically spend a lot of money on recruiting volunteers. Statewide, the volunteer rate is just over 29-percent, which puts Kentucky 26th among other states.
