Power Outage Durations Down From Previous Years

Kentucky utility companies are doing a better job of restoring power after outages – that’s according to a new study by the Public Service Commission. PSC spokesperson Andrew Melnykovych says the agency has been compiling its own data on outages because utility companies were giving them information in different formats.He says the PSC has determined that the number of outages across the state has stayed about the same over the last few years."The duration of the outages seems to be decreasing somewhat. Which tell us at first blush, that the utility companies are doing a much better job of figuring out where the outage is, what caused it and getting out there and fixing it. That is the positive trend that we’re seeing from this data is that the duration of these outages seems to be going down somewhat," he said.Melnykovych says the average outage lasts between 80 and 97 minutes and Kentucky electric customers can expect about one power outage a year.
