Secretary of State Reports Record Turnout

The Kentucky Secretary of State’s office says there was record turnout for Tuesday's primary.Final numbers are still being tabulated but it’s estimated that  32 percent of registered voters came to the polls. That’s nearly six percent higher than the previous record for a presidential primary, set in 1992.Secretary of State spokesperson Les Fugate says officials were expecting a strong turnout.“This is a trend for Kentucky. In the last five years we have steadily increased our turnout for elections. With the exception of last year’s gubernatorial election in the fall we’ve seen a stead increase in turnout," he says. "Hopefully that’s a harbinger for things to come in the fall.”Voter registration also reached a record high, although Kentucky did not see a dramatic jump in new voters that was noted in other states.
