A program that gives Kentucky’s poorest citizens free legal assistance will continue to receive state funding even though it’s not specifically mentioned in Governor Steve Beshear’s two-year budget proposal.State money for the Legal Aid program will come from a Kentucky Justice Cabinet appropriation. The total amount, though, will be up to lawmakers.“The money’s in the budget, we just don’t know what that final number is going to be," says Cabinet spokesperson Jennifer Brislin. "Just like we don’t know what our final numbers for any budgets are going to be until the General Assembly passes the budget.”The Legal Aid program received one and a half million dollars in state funding last year. Most of its funding comes from the federal government.
