I don't know about you but I am whooped. In the last week I saw Sound Tribe Sector 9, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Todd Snider and Mates of State. I even made it out to catch the Flaming Lips movie "Christmas On Mars" and the new Bond flick. The last thing that I should be thinking about is next weekend, but what can I say, I guess I am a glutton for punishment.
If you are like me and want to figure out your weekend one thing you don't want to forget about is the Good Folk Fest. It will be happening at the Mellwood Arts and Entertainment Center Nov. 21-23. In years past the one man band and Lo-Fi technology have been a focus of the Good Folk Fest, and just like in the past this year has a soft theme; this year the music is heavy on the Uke. Don't let that scare you though because I have been listening to a sampler of the GFF and there are a lot of great acts that I am excited to check out. On my short list are: Cutthroat Shamrock, The Smacks, J Glenn, Buddy Nuttand Monkey Boy. Don't let my picks be yours though because there are other great acts like Whistle Peak and Mad Tea Party too. In fact you should just go and see everyone.
Still not sold? What if I tell you that there will be magicians using cutting edge new techniques and those of yesteryear in addition to all the great tunes. No? Maybe you need more then me just telling you about what’s going on, maybe you need a little taste of what’s to come. Ok, ok you can quit twisting my arm already. Tell you what, at 9:20 PM every night this week I will play a song from a GFF act on FPK After Dark.
