Jefferson County Board of Education chairman Steve Imhoff has stepped aside for the remaining few months of his term. The chair position, and leader of the seven member JCPS board, will be vice-chair Diane Porter. Imhoff is one of three board members retiring from his duties at the end of this year. Imhoff, who works as an attorney, said the three trials he has over the next six months is the primary reason for his decision and he said Porter is well qualified for the position.“She’s been involved in just about everything I’ve done as chair and she’s helped me very much," he said. Porter said she’ll continue the team decision-making approach that Imhoff tried to implement."The board itself is a team of seven and Mr. Imhoff and I have worked well together. It helps us be informed," she said.Porter wouldn’t say whether she planned on making a push to keep the position, but that she’ll try to earn the respect of her colleagues.“I want to work real hard for the next six months to show my work ethic and how I handle it and then we’ll make a decision in January," she said. The chair and vice-chair positions are elected in the first board meeting in January.
