Hundreds of people gathered today at Louisville’s Cathedral of the Assumption to pay their final respects to Archbishop Emeritus Thomas C. Kelly. The 80-year-old retired Catholic leader died last week in Louisville. Kelly was remembered by colleagues as a humble man who was highly respected throughout the church. Among those paying tribute was Archbishop Emeritus of San Francisco John R. Quinn."All of us have lost a gifted friend. This church of Louisville has lost a singularly devoted and loving pastor," Quinn said during his homily. Archdiocese of Louisville Chancellor Dr. Brian Reynolds said despite his high office, Kelly never lost touch with the community he served, noting that Kelly often traveled around Louisville on a city bus.Kelly will be laid to rest in the Cathedral of the Assumption’s Chapel of the Bishops.
