After a recent visit to Philadelphia for a music conference, I had some time to think about the musical highlights of my trip. I saw a brilliant performance by Ani Difranco that reminded me what a genius she is, the legendary Dr. John which was a thrill, and a new band that I loved called Bell X1 from Ireland who knocked my socks off. But the absolute highlight was watching this young Texan/New Mexican songwriter, Ryan Bingham and his band Dead Horses, turn everybody into cowboys as they rocked to his fantastic music.
