89.3 WFPL is now featuring local music during its program transitions. In March, the station made a request for musicians to submit an original 30-60 second piece of music online. The station received more than 100 submissions, ranging from folk to hard rock to dubstep. The songs are now being used as music beds, and are played between programs throughout the day on 89.3 WFPL. The artist and song title of all local music featured on air is recognized on the 89.3 WFPL website at https://wfpl.org/about-our-music.
"I knew we had some talented people in the community, but I was still amazed by the overwhelming response that we received. These submissions came in quickly and listening to them was the highlight of my month,โ said Gabe Bullard, WFPL Director of News and Editorial Strategy. โWe're not resting with this collection. We will continue to add new tracks to the rotation as people continue to upload them to SoundCloud.โ
If an artist is interested in submitting music, they can visit SoundCloud, upload the tracks with the tag "WFPLGoesLocal." The downloading option should be turned on and the track submitted should be in a WAV file to be featured on air. Files can also be submitted directly to gbullard@wfpl.org.
