The Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District has issued another air quality alert for Monday, warning that ozone levels could be high enough to be unhealthy for sensitive groups like children, the elderly and people with breathing problems.
This is the fourth consecutive day of air quality alerts for the region. APCD spokesman Tom Nord said area ozone levels exceeded the federal standard Thursday (which was unexpected), Friday and Saturday.
"We always issue these (alerts) with an abundance of caution," Nord said, noting that recent weather conditions have been optimal for ozone: heat, few clouds and stagnant air.
The rest of the week is looking better, he said, and ozone levels are forecast to be moderate Tuesday and Wednesday.
