Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist will not run in the Belmont Stakes next month.
According to the Daily Racing Form, trainer Doug O’Neill says the colt will sit out the third leg of racing’s Triple Crown because of an elevated white blood cell count and a recurrence of fever.
Nyquist’s team delayed shipping him to New York from Baltimore Monday, after he developed a high temperature.
Nyquist suffered his first ever defeat in Saturday’s Preakness, where he finished third, behind Exaggerator and Cherry Wine.
