You'll Soon Have to Pay Louisville Parking Meters on Saturdays

Soon, you'll get a parking ticket for not paying Louisville meters on Saturdays.The city has for years had laws requiring motorists to feed the meters on Saturdays, but the Parking Authority of River City rarely enforced the rules, PARC said in a news release Friday. PARC is changing that—and it's also increasing meter rates.Starting in September, motorists who don't pay meters on Saturdays will get tickets, PARC said. Next month, PARC will distribute notices advising people of the impending enforcement change. The authority will begin issuing formal warnings in August.“As downtown Louisville continues to grow, businesses need more parking spaces that turn over quickly and are available to as many users as possible,” PARC director Tiffany Smith said in a statement.On July 1, parking meter rates will increase 2o percent, PARC said. Garage rates are changing too. As follows:  - Parking meters will increase by $0.25 (from $1.25 to $1.50) - Early Bird rates at Market Street Garage by $1.00 (from $5.00 to $6.00) - Paid In Advance at 1st and Main Garage by $1.00 (from $5.00 to $6.00) - Monthly rates at all PARC garages by $5.00, excluding the Clay Commons GarageSmith said most garages haven't had rate increases since 2007.
