Louisville Water Company is reducing its environmental footprint for this year’s Derby festival.Louisville Water has provided water for the Derby Marathon for years. But this year the company is expanding a pilot project and reducing the number of plastic bottles of water it gives out at the events. There will still be about 78,000 bottles of water at the events. But the company will supplement that with 240,000 compostable cups. The cups will be made of corn, and are compostable. A company spokeswoman says besides being better for the environment, reducing the number of disposable bottles will eliminate trip hazards for marathon runners.
