McCain and Daniels Reportedly Backing Lugar in New Ad

Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels and U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Az., have cut ads supporting embattled U.S. Sen. Richard Lugar, R-In., according to Politico.Lugar is facing a tough Tea Party challenger in state Treasurer Richard Mourdock, who released an internal poll showing him ahead of the six-term incumbent by one percentage point in the GOP primary. The support from two high-profiled Republicans could give Lugar a boost in the final weeks of the campaign——especially Daniels. From Politico: The term-limited Daniels is by far the most popular politician in the state, boasting a 63 percent job approval rating according to a recent Howey/DePauw Indiana Battleground Poll. McCain, the 2008 GOP presidential nominee who carries immense credibility on foreign affairs, could buttress the argument that Lugar’s breadth of experience is invaluable as ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. The Lugar campaign has reportedly made no final decision on whether to run the advertisement.
