Ear-X-Tacy Will Reopen to Pay Bills, Honor Customers

Louisville’s iconic music store Ear-X-Tacy will try selling off its remaining merchandise this weekend when its doors open for the last time.The store was forced to close last month after owner John Timmons struggled to maintain a working business model. Ear-X-Tacy still owes several vendors various amounts of money, he said.“I’m not at liberty to say, but it’s a lot,” Timmons said. “We’ve probably got 50 different vendors. Some of them we owe $50 to, some of them we owe hundreds, and a few are in the thousands.”Many vendors require payment within 30 days, but Timmons is unsure what actions they may take if he can’t pay his bills on time, he said.It’s also unclear when he’ll need to vacate the building located near Douglass Loop on Bardstown Road, he said.“I have not finalized that with the property owners, and I’m sure we’ll be addressing that next week. I do have some people interested in the space and I know there are some folks that would like to open their own record store in town, which I totally encourage,” Timmons said.Timmons said he’s in discussions with businesses around the country to sell off the remainder of his merchandise that’s not sold this weekend. He’s also in discussions with interested business owners for Ear-X-Tacy’s space, but said it's premature to say whether those parties will take the space.The temporary reopening is two-fold. Timmons said he also feels like he owes his customers one last chance to say goodbye and he said everything in the store will have a price.Timmons said gift cards cannot be redeemed after Sunday. The store will open Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5:00.
