Flexing their fundraising muscles, the campaign to re-elect Democratic Governor Steve Beshear announced it has raised $1.5 million for the general election, giving the incumbent a comfortable war chest in the contest against Republican gubernatorial candidate David Williams and independent Gatewood Galbraith. The governor is running with former Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson and was unopposed in the Democratic primary. He raised about $4.9 million during the primary and has about $500,000 on hand. Beshear campaign manager Bill Hyers says those figures show the governor has support from "every corner of the commonwealth."Williams , who is running with agriculture commissioner Richie Farmer, reported raising $700,000 at an event last week featuring Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour. The GOP nominee is expected to file his 30-day post-primary financial report soon.Galbraith has until August to turn in signatures to get on the ballot and is not required to file a report until his candidacy is official.
