Defense testimony is scheduled to begin Wednesday in the federal extortion trial of Karen Sypher.She's accused of demanding millions of dollars from U of L basketball coach Rick Pitino in exchange for her silence about a sexual encounter they had in a Louisville restaurant in 2003. Prosecutors rested their case Tuesday after a week of testimony from nearly two dozen witnesses.It's not clear if Sypher will be called to the witness stand.She's also charged with lying to the FBI and retaliating against a witness.
Rick Howlett was midday host and the host of LPM's weekly talk show, "In Conversation." He was with LPM from 2001-2023 and held many different titles, including Morning Edition host, Assignment Editor and Interim News Director. He died in August 2023. Read a remembrance of Rick here.
