Ghanaian VP Visits Louisville

The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana is visiting Louisville. He will speak at the University of Louisville Thursday. And Vice President John Dramani Mahama is also using the visit to explore business and cultural exchanges.New oil and natural gas reserves have recently been discovered in Ghana. Mahama says he's been speaking with energy companies about setting up operations in his country, but he remains cautious."One is being careful to try and avoid the kind of situation that has arisen in our neighbor Nigeria in the delta region, with regards to oil pollution and with regards to rebellion by the local people against the multi-nationals," he says.Mahama says Ghana is ideal for businesses that wish to expand into Africa."We call Ghana the Gateway to Africa because it is one of the most stable, peaceful, secure countries in Africa," he says. "Most people like to establish their businesses in Ghana and use Ghana as a launching pad to reach out to the rest of the African countries and that's something we want to continue to promote."Mahama says he is also meeting with agriculture business leaders and wants to establish a student exchange between U of L and universities in Ghana.
