Metro Parks Seeks Operator For Otter Creek

The Louisville Metro Parks Department is looking for a private entity to operate Otter Creek Park.To shave money off of a budget shortfall, the city closed the park last month. Parks spokesperson Jason Cissell says the city is willing to allow the park to be re-opened under new management."Our main interest is having the cost of operating the park taken off our books, that's what's driving us," says Cissell. "We want someone who can come in, offer services that don’t cost the Metro Government and therefore the taxpayers anything."In the next few weeks the parks department will issue a request for proposals to renovate the park. Cissell says the request will go to several private, nonprofit entities who could lease the park from the city. Several national parks are operated by such agencies.
