Section of Louisville Loop Opens

The first 23-miles of the Louisville Loop opened today. The hiking and biking trail will eventually become part of a large circle of parkland around the city. The trail is part of the public-private partnership called ‘City of Parks’ that is adding thousands of acres of parkland to the Louisville area. The newly-opened section in southwestern Jefferson County is a little less than one-quarter of the finished product. Mayor’s office spokesperson Chris Poynter says it will take years to finish the loop."Some of the areas are going to easier to finish than others, and more quickly, because some of the difficult areas are rapidly developed already, for example, the northeast, so we have to work around existing subdivisions and planned subdivisions and so forth," said Poynter.Poynter says they’ll work next along River Road to the northeast part of the county, then along the Floyd’s Fork corridor.
