Waste Water Pumps Repaired at 34th Street

Officials with the Metropolitan Sewer District say a pumping station near 34th Street in Louisville has been repaired.The station was down for just over 24 hours this week. Both of the station’s pumps had been sent off for repairs and a temporary pump failed. MSD Regulatory Services Director Brian Bingham says it happened as the city was inundated with storm water.“Unfortunately, mostly what was happening was we were overflowing a combination of waste water and storm water into the Ohio River," says Bingham, "most of that was residential waste, in other words, what people would put down their sink or their shower or their toilet.”Bingham says the two permanent pumps have been repaired and are now both working.He says there is one industrial customer in that area, and their waste was withheld until it could be treated properly. The shutdown posed no major health risks but people in the area were advised to avoid contact with the river.
