Lunsford Wins Democratic Senate Primary

Although there were seven Democrats vying for the nomination, the two frontrunners had the liveliest campaigns. Greg Fischer – who consistently ranked second in pre-election polls – was criticized for attacking Lunsford in television ads early in the campaign.Fischer finished second in the primary vote. In his victory speech, Lunsford extended an olive branch to Fischer.“I know that he will learn from every mistake he made and like me he may make some new ones but he won’t make old ones," said Lunsford. "So we should all be encouraging to Greg to keep him in the public scene."Lunsford will face four term incumbent Mitch McConnell this fall.  McConnell handily won his primary against Daniel Essek.
