Group Campaigns For Department Of Peace

Around Louisville Friday the campaign for the Department of Peace handed out pies at the offices of federal lawmakers and other officials. The pies symbolize the 1% piece of the federal budget a Department of Peace would cost.Kentucky campaign coordinator Kim Summers-Bates says her group does not agree with some lawmakers’ contention that a  Department of Peace would duplicate State Department efforts.“The State Department doesn’t…there’s no…they don’t handle domestic issues and we know about the statistics on violence here in our country," she says."Congressman Dennis Kucinich proposed the department in House Bill 808. The bill currently has 67 co-sponsors in Congress, none of them from Kentucky and all of them Democrats.
