WFPK Launches New Interview Series

91.9 WFPK announces The Speed Of Sound, a new interview series with on-air host and music director Kyle Meredith. The series includes music selections and commentary by artists in seven minute segments. The Speed Of Sound will debut with interviews with Paul McCartney and U2 on 91.9 FM September 8th at 1:30 p.m.

"The design of the show borrows from the way NPR might craft a musician segment, which isn't a format that exists too often on music formats," said Meredith. "The interviews themselves lean more toward entertaining banter, sometimes funny, and often insightful.  The idea is that, within that seven minutes, even if you don't know the artist, you'll get a really great idea of them once it's over thanks to music within the interview format."

The program will air Tuesdays and Thursdays on 91.9 WFPK and nationally on 17 affiliate stations.

The Speed Of Sound schedule:

Sept. 7 - Paul McCartney & U2
Sept. 14 – Béla Fleck / Abigail Washburn & Chuck Prophet
Sept. 21 - Speedy Ortiz & Veruca Salt
Sept. 28 - Father John Misty & Jim James
Oct. 5 - Dawes & Mumford and Sons
Oct. 12 - Belle and Sebastian & Ben Folds
Oct. 19 - Talib Kweli & Sylvan Esso
Oct. 26 - Grace Potter & Rickie Lee Jones
Nov. 2 - Langhorne Slim & Cracker
Nov. 9 - Albert Hammond Jr. & Courtney Barnett
Nov. 16 - Toro y Moi & TV On The Radio

Meredith’s previous interview series, The Weekly Feed, was syndicated nationally for six years on 30 affiliate stations and Salon.com.  You can read music commentary by Meredith  in Paste Magazine and in his LEO Weekly column “Completely Obsessed.” He also hosts a Louisville music series, The Setlist, on WAVE-3 TV (NBC affiliate). Meredith's YouTube interview channel has over one million views.
