89.3WFPL News and the Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting (KyCIR) have received local, regional and national awards for journalism in 2014, including four first place Kentucky Associated Press Broadcasters Awards, a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award, two first place awards from the Indiana Associated Press Broadcasters Association, and first and second place honors from the Society of Professional Journalists’ Green Eyeshade awards. There were no other Green Eyeshade winners in Kentucky.
In addition, WFPL’s Strange Fruit program received the national Outstanding Podcast/Internet Based Video or Audio Show from Pride Index.com. The Pride Index.com award will be presented July 4 in Chicago. A full list of awards received can be viewed below:
Edward R. Murrow Award
Devin Katayama won a regional Edward R. Murrow award for his documentary "At Risk," which explored the plight of students struggling with various issues as they pursue their education in Jefferson County Public Schools. The Murrow award is presented by the Radio Television Digital News Association.
