Louisville Public Media (LPM) welcomed more than 500 new members with a one-day fundraiser, Five Buck Friday. Five Buck Friday exceeded the initial goal of 250 new members by noon and raised nearly $47,000 for the organization.
“This is the first year we have tried something like this and the response was tremendous. People want to be a part of the success of public radio in our community and that is very rewarding for all of us here at Louisville Public Media.” said Layla George, Director of Development.
Over 55% of LPM members are now sustainers. Sustained donations provide a steady, reliable income stream. Every month, a specified contribution is deducted automatically from a member’s bank account or credit card. Sustainers contributing $5 a month donate well over $100,000 a year to the organization.
“As LPM continues to grow and expand our programming, we must also continue to grow our support and the $5/mo members are very important to us. Five Buck Friday was an attempt to lower all barriers and welcome as many new members as possible,” commented George.
In addition to new member pledges, the station also received $7,000 in matching donations from individual donors.
