Classical 90.5 Announces The 9th Annual Young Artist Competition and Winners’ Recital

Classical 90.5 WUOL announces the 2014 Classical 90.5/PNC Wealth Management Young Artist Competition! Young musicians between the ages of 8-18 years-old, within a radius of 125 miles from Louisville are invited to participate. Last year’s winners included pianists Choong-won Jin (first) and Christina Li (second), and honorable mentions to Harpistry 188, Joshua Steinbach, Emily Stone and Jonathan Yi.

“Our Young Artist Competition is a showcase of the future of classical music. It's also a showcase of future leaders in our communities, whether or not they become professional musicians. These are our future doctors, teachers or whatever profession they feel led to pursue.” said Classical 90.5 Program Director Daniel Gilliam.

Soloists and ensembles from across the region are encouraged to register by October 8, 2014 at WUOL.org/yac. The competition (closed to the public) will be held on November 8th at the studios of Louisville Public Media, 619 S. Fourth Street for three pre-selected judges. Previous judges have included local teachers and musicians from the Louisville Orchestra and the University of Louisville School of Music. First place winners will receive a $200 cash prize. Winners and honorable mentions will also be invited to participate in a live broadcast performance on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at noon in front of a live audience. The Winners’ Recital will be featured on “Lunchtime Classics,” a weekly concert series presented by Classical 90.5. This performance is free and open to the public.

Participants can fill out an application online at WUOL.org/yac or print and mail a hard copy to 619 South Fourth St., Louisville, KY 40202 (mail-in applications must be postmarked or submitted online no later than October 8, 2014). An application fee of $20 is required.
