WFPL News Director Gabe Bullard Awarded Prestigious Nieman Foundation for Journalism Fellowship at Harvard University

Gabe Bullard, 89.3 WFPL Director of News and Editorial Strategy, has been selected as one of only 24 journalists to join the 77th class of Nieman Fellows at Harvard University during the 2014-2015 academic year. Bullard will study changing perceptions of American history in politics and culture.

"We are extremely proud that Gabe has won this prestigious fellowship, one of the most coveted in American journalism," says Donovan Reynolds, President and General Manager of Louisville Public Media. "To receive a Nieman Fellowship at such a relatively young age makes this an even more extraordinary accomplishment."

On accepting the fellowship Bullard commented, "I'm honored to be part of this great class of journalists and part of the Nieman program. I thank everyone at LPM and in Louisville who has encouraged me, and I look forward to putting my experience to use at WFPL upon my return."

Bullard will join journalists who work around the globe as reporters, editors, columnists, bureau chiefs, digital leaders and news executives in print, broadcast and online media. The Nieman Foundation has supported and mentored more than 1,400 accomplished and promising journalists from 93 countries since its founding in 1938. In recent years, as the mechanisms of journalism have changed, the fellowship has expanded to encourage innovation, experimentation with digital and social media and other collaborative ventures designed to transform and strengthen the news industry. In addition to taking classes during their time at Harvard, fellows attend Nieman seminars, workshops and master classes and work closely with classmates, Harvard scholars and other leading thinkers and trendsetters in the Cambridge area.
