Classical 90.5 Launches Summer Listening for Students

Classical 90.5 launches Summer Listening, a free program designed to encourage parents and their children to listen to classical music together over the summer vacation. We have teamed up with the Louisville Free Public Library to share this initiative, inspired by the popular LFPL Summer Reading Program. Younger listeners will be encouraged to respond to the music through poetry, drawing or in other ways, though people of all ages can participate. These responses will be shared online through the WUOL.org website and Facebook
page.

Participants are encouraged to listen on Mondays at 10am and 4pm from June 3rd to August 26th to hear Summer Listening music selections. If you miss a broadcast, don’t worry. The online Louisville Free Public Music Library is a free service to library patrons, and you can hear all this music through the “WUOL Summer Listening” playlist online through the LFPL website.

"Listening to music can be a passive act - it's background in our cars, offices and homes. We're encouraging active listening. You can benefit from listening to this music regardless of your age, and we've curated a list of important compositions to get you started," said Daniel Gilliam, 90.5 WUOL Program Director. “Our hope is that this program will get school age children excited about listening to classical music.”

Once participants have completed a predetermined requirement for their age group, they will receive recognition online at WUOL.org and be invited to celebrate at the end of the summer with a Summer Listening celebration. The series is geared toward school age children, ranging from 5 to 18 years-old.
