Kyle Meredith Named “Music Director of the Year”

WFPK's Kyle Meredith received the Non Commercial “Music Director of the Year” award at the national Triple A conference in Boulder, CO. The conference, devoted to alternative music radio, was hosted by the industry trade magazine, FMQB.* Award winners were voted on by industry peers at radio, record label and music promotion companies.

Meredith joined 91.9 WFPK as an on-air host in December of 2008. He started “The Weekly Feed” (now syndicated throughout the U.S.) in March of 2009 and was appointed Music Director in September of 2010. “I’m incredibly proud of Kyle,” says Stacy Owen, WFPK’s Program Director. “We’ve had a wonderful and productive year and he’s become an invaluable member of the WFPK team. It’s nice to see our peers in the industry take note.”

When asked what makes his music direction successful at a national level, Meredith explained, “I'm passionate about listening to as much music as possible, without general concern for genre. Our audience is interested in multiple forms and different styles of music. We regularly add music that falls under rock, Americana, indie, singer/songwriter and everything in between.”

Acknowledging the role of his colleagues in the process, Meredith added, “At WFPK, it's a team effort. Our staff represents a broad demographic - just like our audience. I gravitate towards songs with great melody and a good beat. At the end of the week, I’ve narrowed my selection down to the best 15 songs and the WFPK staff votes on which ones make regular rotation. I'm confident that what we're choosing is what will work best.”

91.9 WFPK also was nominated in categories for Non Commercial “Station of the Year” and “Program Director of the Year.”
