Louisville Public Media completed the most successful fund drive in its history on Friday, raising $615,015 from over 3500 individuals, it was announced today (MON).
The total represents a 22% increase over the previous best fund drive of $502,000 in fall of last year.
“We are grateful that so many people in our community made the decision to stand up for public radio,” said Donovan Reynolds, LPM’s president and general manager. “Many callers said they were alarmed by recent attempts to cut public radio’s federal funding, and contributed to make sure that we continue to have stable funding,” he continued.
Although the drive did not reach its original goal of $650,000, which was set to help offset the potential loss of federal funding, Reynolds said the organization’s “campaign for independence” is just beginning. He says LPM will launch a major donor campaign soon to augment its support from membership campaigns and local businesses.
The fund drive attracted over 1300 new members and 2250 returning members. Friday broke the organization’s record for a single day of fundraising, bringing in $149,552.
LPM operates the city’s three public radio stations, which include WFPL-FM (89.3), WFPK-FM (91.9), and WUOL-FM (90.5).
