9th Annual WFPK Waterfront Wednesday® Concert Series Announced

(Louisville, KY—3/12/10) Louisville’s favorite concert series is set to begin on Wednesday, April 21, 2010. The WFPK Waterfront Wednesday® Concert Series is a monthly free concert on the Harbor Lawn at Louisville Waterfront Park. The concerts take place on the last Wednesday of every month, May through September. The April event is moved one week early to April 21 to avoid conflict with the Kentucky Derby Festival Activities. The Waterfront Development Corporation (WDC) and WFPK first partnered in 2002 to produce an innovative concert series that was free and showcased local and emerging national recording artists as heard on radio station 91.9 WFPK. Each concert attracts large audiences to mingle, dance and enjoy the river. They also enjoy a family-friendly park atmosphere, free admission, a cash bar and upscale festival fare. The event boasts crowds rarely smaller than 3,500 that often swell to 7,000+ people. The April 21 WFPK Waterfront Wednesday® concert is sponsored by Commonwealth Bank & Trust Company, Goose Island Brewing Company, Spalding University, Maker’s Mark and Friends of the Waterfront, and will feature Legendary Shack Shakers, The Holmes Brothers and Audra Mae.The Legendary Shack Shakers “aren’t just speed freak boogie rockabilly goons. Their mastery over the old-timey sound gives them free rein to incorporate punk, blues, Southern rock and rockabilly into whatever psychotic stew they please.” – Stephen Haag, Pop Matters“The Holmes Brothers deliver magnificent old time, gospel-style R&B, and raw electric blues with unparalleled artistry and authenticity. Sherman’s bottomless baritone, Wendell’s classic soul singer’s wail and Popsy’s otherworldly falsetto do more than complement one another; on stage or in the recording studio, the three become like a mystical fourth entity, inexplicable yet sublime, a gift to the world of music.” – Chicago TribuneThere are plenty of reasons to get there early on the 21st, not the least of which is Audra Mae. This grandniece of Judy Garland is a natural. “Possessing a voice unparalleled by even the most noted singers of this generation, when Mae opens her mouth there's no doubt that any other noise in the immediate area doesn't stand a chance against her enchanting, flawless pipes.” – go211.comThe Harbor Lawn is located between the boat docks at the Great Lawn and the Children’s Play Area. Parking is available along River Road, the Orange Lot and surrounding pay lots. The event begins at 5pm. Outside alcohol is prohibited. No coolers, glass or pets allowed in the event area of the Harbor Lawn and the adjacent children’s play area.
