Update 9:54 a.m.: Snowfall began during the Tuesday morning commute, but a Jefferson County Public Schools spokeswoman says administrators expect roads to be cleared by the regular afternoon dismissal time. The school district does not anticipate early dismissal.

Earlier: Louisville is bracing for a bout of winter weather on Tuesday morning that could leave a quick inch or two of snow, the National Weather Service says.

Most schools in the region are operating on a normal schedule, but some took preemptive steps against the storm. Those school systems include Oldham County Schools and Nelson County Schools, which are both closed Tuesday.

Jefferson County Public Schools are open on a normal schedule, but transportation for early childhood programs is canceled, according to the school system.

The storm is forecast to reach Louisville at about 8 a.m. and exit in the later morning, according to the weather service forecast. Scattered light snow showers will be possible through the day.

The weather service said the storm may "rapidly reduce visibilities and put down a quick accumulation of snow." Slick roads are possible. Strong winds with gusts as strong as 35 miles per hour are expected with the storm.

Between 1 and 2 inches of snow are possible, according to the forecast.

The temperature is expected to drop into the single digits overnight.
