For years, Rita Ann Fleming has been creating funny children’s poems from her family experiences and a long career as an obstetrician in Southern Indiana.
Now semi-retired, Fleming has published a book of more than 60 poems, illustrated by Portland, Ore., artist Abigail Marble.
The book is called Does "Grandma Have a Mustache?"

Here is a sample of Fleming's work from the book:
The Pacifier
It costs about a dollar
but is worth its weight in gold.
My mother bought one hundred
where the baby things are sold.
We've hidden them all over
the house and the basement too.
'Cause when the baby wants one
no substitute will do.
Some say we're quite indulgent.
We really should deny her.
But no one sleeps a wink without
the baby's pacifier.
